VISITING CANADA
Do I need a visa and where can I apply?
Indonesia and Timor Leste - Citizens of these countries require a
temporary resident visa to enter Canada. If you reside in Indonesia or Timor
Leste you should apply at the Canadian Embassy in Jakarta.
Other Countries - If you are a citizen of another country, please check
the main CIC website to see if you need a temporary resident visa to travel to
Canada. If you do, please apply to the office which services the country in
which you are resident.
What types of temporary resident visas are available?
A single entry visa allows you to enter Canada only once. The visa may
also be used for repeated entries into Canada from the USA within the time
allowed for your stay in Canada.
A multiple entry visa allows you to enter Canada from any country as
often as you wish during the validity of the visa. The maximum validity of a
multiple entry visa is five years, or to one month prior to the passport expiry
date, whichever is shorter. A multiple entry visa is ideal for frequent
travellers.
A transit visa is required for travel through Canada to another country
by those persons who need a temporary resident visa and whose flight will stop
in Canada for less than 48 hours. To obtain a transit visa you must provide
specific evidence of your travel arrangements from your airline. Transit visas
are free of charge.
International seafarers travelling to Canada to join ships as crew members
require a valid passport for entry as well as a seafarer's identity document.
They also require a temporary resident visa, unless they are citizens of a
country that is exempt from the requirement.
How do I apply for a temporary resident visa?
The Canadian Embassy strongly encourages clients to submit their applications
to the Canadian Visa Application Centre, which will be open starting April
9, 2007. Please see their website for more details. If
you choose not to apply at the Canadian Visa Application Centre, you may apply
directly at the Canadian Embassy; however, an appointment is required for
any applications submitted after April 9, 2007. To obtain an appointment,
please contact the Canadian Embassy by
email or by fax, (021) 2550-7816. Applicants who have an appointment
may submit their applications at the Canadian Embassy:

allowed to extend your visit. This is only possible if you apply before the end
of your authorized stay. Contact a CIC Call Centre in Canada for more
